- Kenichi has one very important card to him: Hastorr. This is a card he tends to speak to and can hear. While he does have a deck, it's kept mostly hidden in his shirt pocket, and he's often too scared to duel. Other decks and cards can easily scare him, though if he knows the person, he can be eased into adjusting to them. Shun, Yuto, Allen, and Sayaka are the only ones whose cards he's not at least a little afraid of; even his other comrades' decks made him a little nervous.
- Despite this, with some gentleness and patience, he can be drawn into a duel. But it will take a lot and the other person has to be very careful about their intensity.
- Kenichi doesn't remember much of anything from his life before the war. The books he read, the games he played, the shows he watched, he doesn't remember any of those clearly. Flashes, maybe, but nothing solid to go off on. Because of that, he'll take almost anything he can get in terms of entertainment or comfort without complaint -- even a small thing helps. What he prefers the most, however, are soft toys or blankets to cuddle, board games to play with the other survivors, or models to build of robots and dinosaurs.
- He's very timid and very easily frightened -- even something like banging doors can make him scream if he feels on edge. Because Academia attacked their city without warning and hunted them down just because, Kenichi doesn't adhere to "reason"; that is, even if there's nothing to be scared of, he's still scared. If Heartland can be destroyed for "no reason", then a bang or someone yelling or even a stranger can be threatening and fatal for "no reason". He tends to burst into tears easily, too, and anyone shouting at him quickly forces him into a panicked breakdown which will end in him running away and hiding in the tightest space he can find. He's gotten stuck because of that before.
- When he isn't afraid, he tends to be a little more chatty, and is happy to talk about casual things or fun things. He still barely ever smiles, though.
- He doesn't trust strangers at all, regardless of their age, unless they're closer to his age (12). Academia had young teenage soldiers, so whether an adult or a teen, they're a danger. Because of this, he freaks out when people get too close or too familiar to him, which can result in either running away, biting or scratching hard enough to bruise and draw blood, or both.
- He's very, very close to Kurosaki Shun and considers Shun his real big brother now (calling him Kuro-nii, or -- if he's really upset -- Shu-nii). While he isn't possessive or jealous, he can get very depressed if Shun doesn't have time for him or is busy, especially since he doesn't have many "safe people" to turn to anymore. A couple of others he treats just as fondly (though that are still below Shun) are Yuto and Kaito.
- He also doesn't like games that use a lot of fire (even things simple, like fiery lands, though burning cities are worse) or games with a war as their central theme, even a fantasy war. It can easily cause a trauma breakdown.
